This guide is for Microsoft Visio Professional 2024 LTSC on Windows. Visio is a standalone product that installs alongside Office, and the version and bit rules below decide whether it installs cleanly.
Before you start
- Requires Windows 10 or Windows 11, 4 GB RAM and 4 GB free disk space. There is no Mac desktop version.
- Check any Office already on the PC. Visio 2024 should sit alongside Office 2024 or Microsoft 365, in the same bit version. Open Word, go to File > Account > About Word; the top line says 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Have your 25-character key from the delivery email ready.
Step 1: Remove any older Visio
If Visio 2021, 2019 or an evaluation is installed, uninstall it under Settings > Apps > Installed apps and restart.
Step 2: Download the Visio 2024 installer
Use the download link in your delivery email. It points to the official Microsoft installer for Visio Professional 2024. Pick the bit version that matches your Office, or 64-bit if the PC has no Office.
Step 3: Install
- Close all Office apps.
- Run the installer and accept the User Account Control prompt.
- Keep the PC online until you see You're all set.
Step 4: Activate Visio 2024
- Open Visio from the Start menu.
- Choose Enter a product key instead, or go to File > Account > Change product key.
- Enter your key and follow the prompts. Sign in with your own Microsoft account if asked.
- Confirm File > Account shows Product Activated: Microsoft Visio Professional 2024.
If your delivery email states your key uses phone activation, select I want to activate the software by telephone in the wizard.
Visio 2024 specific problems
Error 30182 or "We found a problem" during install
The existing Office is a different generation or bit version. Upgrade Office to 2024 in the matching bit version, or install Visio in the same bit version as the existing Office.
Only basic templates appear
The Standard edition was installed. Uninstall it and reinstall using the Professional installer from your delivery email. Professional includes BPMN, UML, network, engineering and floor plan templates.
"Invalid product key"
Check the installed product is Visio Professional 2024, not Standard, and not Project. A Project 2024 key is a different product.
AutoCAD DWG files will not open
Visio 2024 opens DWG files saved in AutoCAD 2007 to 2018 format. Save newer drawings down to an older format in AutoCAD first.
