This guide is for Microsoft Office 2024 Professional Plus for Windows. It walks you from a clean PC to an activated install of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Access 2024.
Before you start
- Office 2024 requires Windows 10 or Windows 11. Windows 11 is recommended, as Windows 10 is out of Microsoft support.
- 4 GB RAM, 4 GB free disk space and an internet connection.
- Have the 25-character product key from your delivery email ready.
- Office 2024 does not include Publisher or Teams. If you need Publisher, see the Office 2021 guide.
Step 1: Remove any existing Office
Office 2024 cannot share a PC with Office 2021, 2019 or Microsoft 365. This step prevents the majority of install failures.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall every Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 entry, including pre-installed trials.
- If anything refuses to uninstall, use Microsoft's Office uninstall support tool.
- Restart the PC.
Step 2: Download the Office 2024 installer
Use the download link in your delivery email. It points to the official Microsoft installer for Office 2024 Professional Plus. Choose 64-bit unless you rely on a legacy add-in that only works in 32-bit.
Step 3: Install
- Run the installer and accept the User Account Control prompt.
- Keep the PC online and awake until you see You're all set! Office is installed now. This takes 5 to 15 minutes.
Step 4: Activate Office 2024
- Open Word 2024.
- When the activation prompt appears, choose Enter a product key instead. If there is no prompt, go to File > Account > Change product key.
- Enter your key and follow the prompts. If asked to sign in, use your own Microsoft account so you can reinstall later from account.microsoft.com.
- Under File > Account, confirm it shows Product Activated: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2024.
If your delivery email states your key uses phone activation, select I want to activate the software by telephone in the wizard and follow the email instructions.
Office 2024 specific problems
The key is rejected with "This product key is for a different version"
You installed a 2021 or 2019 installer. Only the Office 2024 installer from your delivery email accepts a 2024 key.
Error 30015-11 or 30088-4 during install
Leftover files from a previous Office. Repeat Step 1 with the uninstall support tool, restart, then reinstall.
Publisher is not listed
Correct. Microsoft removed Publisher from the 2024 suite. This is not an installation fault.
Title bar says "Unlicensed Product"
Activation did not complete. Return to File > Account > Change product key with the PC online and enter the key again.
